Walk by Faith, Not by Sight
Paul's words to Corinth are a way of life, not a slogan. A short devotional on what it means to walk by faith when you cannot see the road.
“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”
It is one of the shortest verses Paul ever wrote, and it sits inside parentheses — almost as if he assumed his readers already knew it. Walking by faith was not a special calling for a few. It was the normal Christian life.
What Sight Promises
Sight promises certainty. If I can see the outcome, the bank balance, the test result, the next step — then I can move. But sight keeps most of us standing still, because most of life is not visible in advance. Faith moves anyway, not because the road is clear, but because the One who leads on it is trustworthy.
What Faith Requires
Faith is not a feeling that shows up when things are easy. It is a decision to trust God's character over your circumstances. The Word says be strong and of a good courage — not because the situation is small, but because the LORD goes with you.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Walk It Out This Week
- Name one decision you have been waiting to make until you could "see" the outcome. Bring it to God in prayer, plainly.
- Read 2 Corinthians 5 in full. Notice what Paul says surrounds this little verse.
- Tell a brother or sister what you are trusting God for. Faith grows when it is spoken.
For we walk by faith, not by sight. Keep walking.
